I‘ve put it off long enough. Not being a big fan of vinyl siding, it’s time this year to actually get the house painted. First step in undertaking a job of this scope for this small one story ranch house is what every painter knows 80% preparation, 20% painting. Now you might think that preparation begins with the proper tools and paint, but as any foodie knows the first step is a well stocked fridge. Empty fridge means no work. So the first stop is not the home center but your favorite food market and/or warehouse club .The usual meat and potatoes/pasta/veggies/and fruit should be present along with your favorite libation and if you prefer you can carry around the standard water bottle everyone else carries around these days full of high priced fancy water with additives for that extra boost, even though the only thing they may be boosting is your wallet. Since the weather dictates time for grilling, stock up on charcoal and/or make sure your propane canister is full. If you have a smoker, you can prep your smoker in the morning and let it smoke during the painting day , adding a pleasant aroma to your day. Why waste valuable time running to the sandwich shop in paint covered overalls when a steak and cheese grinder can be made hot off the grill ? You can sit back and enjoy a cold drink instead of sitting at the red light.

Now that the food provisions have been accounted for it time for the proper grunge paint clothing. “Work on your car wear” is a good choice and if you saved the tee shirts from the last painting party you can layer them on/off for proper effect. If you don’t have anything grungeable you can resort to pre-spattering some clothing with paint for the proper look avoiding the newbie painter look. Sturdy but wasteable shoes or sneakers complete the uniform and if you want to add some authenticity, a white painter’s hat that they used to give away free at paint store if you bought enough paint (along with free paint stirring sticks) can be worn either brim forward or back. Shades, (Safety tinted glasses) are also recommended if the sun is shining brightly.

Scheduling you paint day(s) used to be a problem but now with the advance of the internet and/or web enabled cell phones, weather radar can pinpoint the day and times you’ll be brandishing your tools and paintbrushes. And that reminds me, you can’t do anything with the proper tunes either, so your boom box, Ipod, mp3 player, sat radio, or cell phone or a fuddy duddy earphone radio, or your vehicle parked at close proximity with the doors open provide the proper work environments. Cordless powered music devices should be up to full charge preferable with a backup power source. If you want to blog along a camera or camera enable cell phone with you fav network site should be on  on the ready.
