Memorial Day Cheeseburger

Photos from Memorial Day, other than memorial events, the traditional day to open a swimming pool, celebrate the beginning of summer, or grille.

Not having really any menu plans I just grilled the burgers quick, just by placing them on a grate over the charcoal starter for a quick grille.

too hot to run the oven

When there’s a heat wave and it’s too hot to add additional heat to the kitchen, it’s time to fire up the outdoor grille. After sundown, cooler temperatures outdoors makes for a comfortable respite while bread bakes.

Similar to a previous posting…..https://pmetro.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/bread-baked-on-the-grille/

This time one loaf of  bread was baked in two  heavy duty bread pans (received as a gift), one placed inside of the other so it was double insulated from the coals.

The temperature reached about 400 degrees, according to the temperature gauge on the top of the grille cover,  baked for about 30 minutes.

This particular loaf had a soft crumb, the sides and the bottom darker from the top, but not burnt.

The morning grille

potatoes on the grille this morning…

Five minutes in the microwave  along with….

I decided to add grated carrot, not shown

Triple blend of Rwanda , Honduras, and Robusta, in the press

meanwhile back on the grille….

Coffee is ready while the grille cooks away. It’s nice having a large cooking area not limited to a frypan…

First sip… Aaahhhhhhh…     Close inspection reveals that my mug wasn’t washed from the day before…… Just rinsed…

Not the most elegant looking plate , but nourishing. Have some red beans in the fridge and considered addIng them.

Another sip of coffee…extremely smooth… Life is good …spring is on the way…

Holiday

Aside from the obvious meaning of Memorial Day, it also signifies the beginning of outdoor activities season. This year the weather preceding this holiday has been several days of relatively cold and rain. Today promises a warm up. By advertising and media, one is encouraged to have their outdoor grille and swimming pool functioning by this date if you haven’t already done so.
We already have had our propane grille operating, and the charcoal grille has yet to see action. The cool weather this morning, (40ish) and early rise to have a cup of coffee outside, like camping, suggested the better way to cook bacon and toast bagels was on the grille. Nothing like the taste of flame crisped bacon.
Some views of the yard first.
